Offering Iftar: Why Feeding Someone Who Fasts Is One of Ramadan's Best Deeds
In parts of Africa, breaking the fast with dignity isn't a given. Understand why a solidarity iftar matters, and how a €5 to €150 donation feeds whole families.

Sunset during Ramadan is, for most of us, an eagerly awaited moment around a well-stocked table. But in several regions of Africa, millions of families break their fast with very little, sometimes almost nothing. Offering an iftar to these families is one of the simplest, most immediately useful gestures one can make this month.
1Why iftar holds such a special place
Breaking the fast is a moment of shared joy, explicitly mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ as one of the fasting person's two joys — alongside meeting Allah on the Day of Resurrection. Offering this moment to someone who couldn't have experienced it with dignity means offering far more than a meal: it means giving them their share of Ramadan's joy.

2The reality on the ground
In the rural areas TreeDon covers in Africa, food insecurity doesn't pause during Ramadan — it often worsens, as basic food becomes scarcer and pricier as major feast days approach. For many families, an iftar meal funded by an outside donation isn't an extra: it's the only real meal of the day.
3Three ways to offer an iftar with TreeDon
The iftar donation comes in three formats, to match what each person can give: the Single Meal at €5 feeds one person; the Family pack at €30 feeds a household of 6; the Village pack at €150 feeds 30 people at once — a particularly powerful collective gesture during this blessed month.
4A simple gesture, a reward that never diminishes yours
Unlike other forms of giving, offering iftar requires no organization on your part: you choose the format, TreeDon handles preparation and distribution on the ground, before the fast is broken. You then receive photos of the distribution — concrete proof that your donation fed people who needed it, that very evening.
