“There is no Muslim who plants a tree or sows a seed from which a human, a bird or an animal eats, except that it is counted for him as charity (Sadaqa).”
— Reported by Al-Bukhari (2320) and Muslim (1553)
The lemon tree (Citrus limon (L.) Osbeck) is a versatile small fruit tree of the Rutaceae family. In remote villages where access to sanitised drinking water is not always immediate, lemon juice plays a vital hygienic role: its natural acidity (citric acid) helps inhibit certain pathogenic germs in family drinking water. Its lemons provide 53 mg of vitamin C per 100 g and antibacterial flavonoids that soothe irritated throats and support natural defences in cold weather.
Citric acid purifies drinking water and supports the digestive hygiene of families.
